Finishing Your Basement With Style

January 20, 2022 Posted by kyu7

Finishing your basement is a huge step. You have added great value to your home and added living space. This new space can be used as a gym, home office, master or guest bedroom, family room, music room, media room, or any other purpose you consider. There is a variety of questions asked before moving forward with a basement remodel.

Continue reading and read your questions being answered.

What Materials Should I Avoid When Finishing My Basement?

There are certain building materials and furnishings that are not recommended for your basement, as some building materials and furnishings can attract dampness and moisture causing mold, mildew and foul odors.
These can include any organic materials such as wood, paper, paint, drywall, carpet, and other similar items. The problem lies in their composition being the perfect breeding ground for mold upon the introduction of moisture! No one wants mold in the basement, so be careful in decorating and furnishing your basement-especially if it hasn’t already been waterproofed.

Wondering what kind of flooring is acceptable? Well, there are plenty of materials that look like wood and carpet, but are inorganic-perfect for the basement.

I want to hang drapes in my basement. What is appropriate?

Many homeowners tend to select drapes for their basement. They believe the drapes will be an added bonus to help keep cold air for entering the home in the winter months and warm air from entering the home in the summer months. This is true to some extent, but homeowners should avoid using heavy drapes, as heavier drapes are more likely to make your basement darker and retain dampness and moisture.

Are you tired of driving to and from the gym? Are you looking for a more convenient way to work out?

Then consider making your newly finished space a home gym or fitness center. It is one of the easiest transformations. Basements tend to be naturally cooler than the rest of your home. This is due to being partly underground. Basements tend to be spacious and wide open; which provides an ideal space for gym equipment.

A gym or fitness center in your basement could include a stationary bicycle, treadmill, a rowing machine or free weights. It would also be ideal for a larger weight room.

Enjoy yoga, boxing, kickboxing, or zumba? Have your basement finished and designed for any of these routines. Have the mirrors, mats, and maybe even a little nook to cool off and enjoy some water. Your friends will love this space! Maybe you’ll have to charge for weekly classes!

Get Fit and Lose Weight by Using an Elliptical Machine in Your Home

January 5, 2022 Posted by kyu7

Why would anyone want to use an Elliptical machine at home?

Well, we know that exercise is very important if we want to have a vital and healthy life. When we don’t exercise regularly, especially as we get older, we are likely to lose muscle tone and gain weight. This is a recipe for disaster.

One of the issues that we have is just going to the gym. Many of us are uncomfortable exercising in front of others, and besides, the gym can be smelly, dirty and overrun with germs. Why go to the gym when you can buy fitness equipment and exercise in the comfort of your home? In the long run exercising at home is probably healthier and less expensive than joining a fancy gym.

With this in mind, let’s look at the reasons you might want to get elliptical equipment for your home gym.

• Do you know the benefits of working out using elliptical machines?

• Did you know the best workouts for losing weight can be done safely using an elliptical at home?

• Did you know you can get a total body workout using elliptical equipment in your home gym?

Let’s discuss the some of the benefits of using this valuable piece of equipment.

Elliptical machines, also known as cross trainers, are stationary workout tools that allow you to work out without pounding your joints. This allows you to workout with minimal risk of injury to your joints. If you already have bad knees, hips, ankles or a bad back you can still workout without further damage to your body.

There are three types of elliptical machines:

• The oldest equipment is designed with a rear drive.

• The next iteration uses a front-drive design.

• The most recent models use a center-drive design.

Each generation of equipment improves the design to give you the greatest potential benefit. The newest center drive design is now considered to be state of the art, and the best equipment to use to get the maximum benefit.

ADVANTAGES OF USING ELLIPTICAL MACHINES/TRAINERS IN YOUR HOME

Elliptical machines used at home give you many benefits. Some of the benefits include:

• Working out indoors and in the comfort of your home. You will never be affected by the weather. This is true if you work out in the elements or if you drive to the gym.

• Elliptical machines cause less impact on your joints.

• Elliptical machines work your arms, shoulders, chest, biceps and triceps. They work your thighs, claves, and glutes. You also get the benefit of aerobic exercise.

• You can vary the intensity of your workout by setting the resistance and incline of the equipment.

• Although elliptical machines have minimal impact on the joints, they are a weight bearing form of exercise, which works your muscles harder, and increases your chances of losing weight

• Some elliptical machines are designed to be very easy to move and save space.

Working out doesn’t only help maintain physical vitality. A healthy body increases our chances of having a healthy mind. Exercising in the peace and comfort of your home is a very good way to maintain your physical and mental health. Using an elliptical machine properly at home should be an integral part of your exercise regimen.

Yoga Heal Your Body

December 2, 2021 Posted by kyu7

f you are a part of a fitness center like myself, it isn’t hard to find a yoga class to attend. The one in our town fills up very quickly. When I didn’t get to the one class soon enough for a spot, I browsed through the list of available classes and came across hand yoga. This intrigued me so I decided to attend.

How will hand yoga or mudras help the body?

- Mudras was done by the ancient cultures.
- It’s becoming more popular in the U.S.
- This yoga stimulates nerves in the hands to correlate with parts of the body.
- Easy to do anywhere.
- Different positions will heal the body.
- Go online to discover how to do the hand positions.

Even the ancient cultures recognized mudras as a form of healing. Its benefits have gradually been more recognized at fitness centers around the United States. The reason is mudras focuses on the nerves in a person’s hands, as each nerve correlates to an area on the body.

With a little time, you can learn how to do mudras. The nice thing is it can be done almost anywhere – the car, your desk, or your couch. When the nerve endings are stimulated, it will signal healing in the area that needs the most healing. It can also be used for health prevention.

The Gyaan Mudra will sharpen your memory and increase intellect. This will promote happiness. You start doing it by creating an “O” shape with the tip of the index finger and thumb. The Apaan Mudra joins the thumb tip to the middle fingers on the hand. When the tips are connected, it cleanses the body and relieves urination and constipation problems.

If you join the ring finger, the thumb, and the pinky, you are doing the Prana Mudra. This gives you energy and improves your vision. When you do the Makula Mudra, you will put the elbows to the ribs and make the forearms parallel. Raise the palms up with the finger joined and pointing upward. This creates overall healing on the body.

If you want to discover more hand positions, then go online. Different websites offer information on how to do hand yoga. This way if you need help with an issue, then look up the correlating hand position. This process doesn’t take long to learn, but stick with it and you’ll appreciate its countless benefits.

Weight Loss

Is Derek Wahler’s Belly Fat Shrinking Signal a good book?

Fat Shrinking Signal is a 21-day sequential home-based slimming program that uses natural methods to help you get rid of extra bodyweight as well as tone your muscles. The program is a creation of Derek Wahler who claims to be a Certified Turbulence Trainer and a NASM Certified Personal Trainer. Derek refers to himself as the “weight loss whisperer” and claims to overcome the challenges of traditional diet and exercise routines to help people lose weight. He created this simple follow along body shaping program based on science to help people of all ages and physical conditions successfully shrink body fat.

How does Fat Shrinking Signal Work?

This fat shrinking program targets all angles of your body so that you can tone and trim every inch without the boring effects associated with the same everyday workout routines. Its full body burn sequence sends fat burning signals to the brain through unique complete body movements to release trapped fat in the body. Fat Shrinking Signal relies on the effects of leptin to assist in weight loss. Leptin is a body hormone linked to weight loss and feelings of satiety, it lets you know when you are full and to stop eating.

When the brain does not receive leptin signals, it thinks that the body is starving and thus can never tell when you are full. As a result, you end up having too much storage fat as a result of the food you eat. Bearing this in mind, this program works to counter the problem of leptin level plummet and turn your body into a fat-burning system.

What is Included in the Fat Shrinking Signal Package?

The Fat Shrinking Signal program is based on performing certain exercises, in a particular manner, sequence and intensity for various body parts. It may take a while to master the exercise sequence, but once you do, it should take just about ten minute to complete. The essence of the system is targeted “slimming sequence” that includes four steps:

Body Slimming Burst #1 – The program begins to burn fat immediately with the first step that activates your “Fat Shrinking Signal” that flushes out trapped body fat so that you look and feel slimmer almost immediately. It is asserted that using the Fat Shrinking technique is like performing rapid liposuction, only that without the dangerous side effects or health risks. Therefore, you should be prepared for the psychological shift that comes with it.

Body Shaping Burst #2- This step releases fat-burning signals to your brain so that it instantly releases the trapped fat around the heart, arms, belly and thighs. It features unique body movements that shape the troublesome areas and melt fat away. This step is also known as the “Shock Your System”, it will activate five “shock points” concurrently, to firm and shape common body trouble spots.

Body Sculpting Burst #3 – This is a tightening and toning routine that includes a 40-second tummy slimming movement. It also activates anti-aging enzymes to get you looking years younger and releases the breakdown of fat in your body through the 10-minute “Fire Cracker” method.

Body Shredding Burst #4 – This fourth and final approach activates your metabolism, ignites calorie burning and lowers blood pressure. This means you are able to lose double, or even triple the fat because of the metabolism activation and become slimmer and more toned without adding extra sets or minutes to your workout

Bodylastics Vs a Gym Membership – A Comparison by a Former YMCA Member

November 2, 2021 Posted by kyu7

So you have made up your mind to get into some training, or you have been training and are looking for a less expensive and less time consuming way to train. One of the areas you might explore is the Bodylastics home training system featuring resistance elastic bands. This system was developed by Blake Kessel and first marketed in 1998. Total customers are over 1,200,000.

For the last 4 years, I have been a Michigan wintertime member of the local YMCA and under the supervision of a personal trainer directed system there. My motivation to join was brought about by my being a prostate cancer survivor and recognizing the need to stay in good physical shape to help prevent any return of the cancer. In the summer I leave my exercise to approximately 100 plus rounds of golf. After some dissatisfaction with the time and money associated with the YMCA program, I started looking for some alternatives. Having heard much about the Bodylastics system, I thought I would do a comparison. The following is a summary of that comparison as to effectiveness, cost, and time efficiency.

Is Bodylastics an adequate substitute for free weights and weight machines in a gym atmosphere such as the YMCA?

Each year I start out at the Y with a 30-60 minute session with a personal trainer. She puts together an exercise program that best keeps me in good health ( I am not a muscle builder, but simply want to be in reasonably good shape) These exercises make use of the myriad machines available and generally consist of 3 different machines for the legs, and nine different machines for the back, shoulder, and arms. There is also a small amount of time devoted to free weights. Total time to perform these exercises usually is 20-25 minutes, followed by a cardiovascular routine that consists of fast walking laps on the indoor track for about an hour. In looking at Bodylastics I found at minimum it offered 140 different exercises, many of which duplicated the ones done at the YMCA. In terms of the amount of resistance, the special Bodylastics “quick clip system” allows not only quick changes to different exercises, but also allow adding up to 7 resistance bands to give all the resistance needed.

Even though the Bodylastics system compared favorable from a weight resistance training standpoint, there is one negative…..it does not offer cardiovascular exercise such as the indoor track at the Y. Of course, a substitute is simply walking outside or purchasing a machine for use in the home. In Michigan walking outside is available most of the year with the exception of some exceptionally cold and/or snow filled days. Thus, this may be an area that is going to be limited with just the Bodylastics approach.

Cost:

Bodylastics’ basic unit for beginners of average strength is $49.95, with upgrades to $59.95 for those of above average strength, and $99.82 for exceptionally strong individuals. Now let’s compare this to belonging to a gym, specifically, in my case, to the YMCA. Monthly membership fees are $44/month. This includes weight training and cardiovascular, but also a swimming pool, Jacuzzi, basketball gym, and a roller blade rink. The latter 4 areas I do not use at all.

Travel:

The distance from my home was 6.9 miles, or a round trip of approximately 14 miles. With my MPG of 22, and an average exercise frequency of 5 times per week, and cost of gas at $2.25 per gallon, travel costs were $7.15 per week, or $30.80 per month. For the 6 months each year that I am a member, the cost is $185.00.
The total cost of the YMCA for membership and travel for 6 months that is duplicated each and every year is $449.00 versus the beginning Bodylasts set cost of $49.95, a one time expenditure. Needless to say, this is a significant difference.

Time efficiency:

Bodylastics does not require a daily 20 minute round trip to the YMCA. This trip can be considerably longer in Michigan when the snow flies, or icy roads are encountered. Once at the gym, there is time check in, change into workout clothes, and sometimes having to wait to use a machine.

Probably the most significant time savings occur when out of town. This is when I have to search for the local YMCA, find out how to get there, actually get there, and then pay a guest fee. With the Bodylastics contained in a 3# bag with a door attachment, it can simply be taken to and used at any travel destination.

Top 7 Myths About Weight Loss

October 18, 2021 Posted by kyu7

MYTH 1: SPOT REDUCTION WORKS

It is widely believed that if you focus your exercise and weight training on specific areas of your body that you will be able to reduce the amount of fat in that specific area or region. In reality, there is no such thing as spot reduction, and instead, as you begin to work out and exercise you will start to lose weight evenly throughout your entire body. Just the same, another common myth is that a high number of repetitions will burn more fat when in truth, fewer repetitions with heavier weight will actually cause you to burn more fat in a shorter amount of time than a higher number of reps with a lighter weight.

MYTH 2: DRINKING COLD BEVERAGES REDUCES FAT

This is a very common myth that actually is believable if you consider the reasoning behind it. The myth goes on to indicate that because your body needs to heat up the water, it automatically begins to burn calories whenever you drink cold water. This calorie-burning frenzy continues until your body has adjusted the water temperature to be that of your regular body’s warmth. While drinking water (at any temperature) is an important part of any weight loss system, don’t count on losing weight just from drinking alone. Water helps flush out your system keeping you healthy and free of toxins, but you cannot burn calories just by drinking it without a healthy diet.

MYTH 3: ELIMINATING FOOD GROUPS WILL CAUSE FAT LOSS

This myth is a bit confusing, so let’s set the record straight. Eliminating (or at least minimizing) certain foods such as foods that are high in sugars) should be part of your transition into healthy eating. You always want to minimize the number of high fat (low energy) foods whenever possible. However, eliminating complete food groups from your diet and focusing on eating only one kind of food is not only very difficult to stick with, but in order to maintain a healthy diet, you need a well-rounded selection of wholesome foods from all of the food groups.

MYTH 4: LOW-CALORIE DIETS ARE THE ONLY WAY TO LOSE WEIGHT

Nearly every diet out there focuses on lowering your calorie intake and increasing your overall level of activity, and rightly so. The problem comes when dieters believe that by dramatically reducing their calorie intake they will shed the weight and keep it off. It’s important to gradually reduce your calorie intake so that your body’s natural system doesn’t shift into ‘starvation’ mode, which triggers your system into believing that you need to store food for a possible period of famine (this has been part of our system since the beginning of man). You also need to watch out for a disruption in your body’s natural metabolic pace, as dramatic reductions in calories can slow it down making it harder to shed those pounds.

MYTH 5: YOU MUST WORK OUT AT SPECIFIC TIMES

I’ve seen this myth circulate the weight loss communities many times over the years and while the “best time of day” always seems to change, the basic idea remains the same: You need to work out at specific times for maximum results. In reality, you really don’t have to work out early in the morning, late at night, or anything in between as long as you are actually exercising. Focus more on maintaining a consistent schedule of activity and less on when you actually get it done. For busy moms to business owners, being able to set a specific schedule isn’t always the easiest thing to achieve, so it’s great news that the real facts are that regardless of when you actually exercise, your body will burn the same amount of calories for the same workout regardless of the time of day.

MYTH 6: YOU MUST WORK OUT FOR XX MINUTES BEFORE IT BEGINS TO WORK

I used to believe this myth myself. The idea behind it is that your body must “warm-up” for a period of time before it shifts into “fat-burning mode”, and so anything before xx minutes simply doesn’t count. This is complete nonsense! While you should always work towards incorporating a warm-up period (as well as a slow down process) during your workouts, you actually start burning fat from the moment you begin!

MYTH 7: EAT FAT BURNING FOODS TO LOSE WEIGHT

If you ever truly find a food group or item that will cause instant weight loss, please, let me know! Realistically, there are no foods that instantly burn fat, however, there are food types that can increase your metabolism (which will subsequently, help you lose weight).

5 Fat Burning Exercises

October 2, 2021 Posted by kyu7

With only seven exercises you can do a complete, at home, fat burning workout. And no, you don’t need a big, lunky piece of cardio equipment to do slow, boring aerobic training.

Many people don’t have time to consistently go to the gym and want to workout at home. But how many exercises can you do in your workouts at home with dumbbells? I have put together some training options you can do at home. The options include dumbbell workouts and exercises that need no external resistance. I have provided many options so that even a home workout can have variety.

In fact, this entire workout can be done with only your bodyweight, but for a more advanced challenge, you can use dumbells in certain exercises.

The workout doesn’t use any machines either, because this allows you to use more muscles per ecxercise when you do standing exercises or push-ups instead of the pec-dec at your local gym.

Here’s the workout.

1) bodyweight squat

2) pushup or kneeling pushup

Do exercises 1 and 2 back to back with no rest. Aim for 8-12 repetitions per set. If you are advanced, you can use dumbells for the squat and even harder pushup, such as decline pushups to increase the difficulty of the workout. For beginners, stick to bodyweight squats and kneeling pushups.

Do the squat and pushup back to back without rest, but rest 1 minute before repeating the exercises again. Then rest a minute, and repeat one more time. Then you will have done this superset (that’s what it is called when you do two exercises back to back) 3 times.

However, beginners should do all exercises in the entire workout only once. Only advanced fitness levels can use the 3 superset system.

3) split squat

4) mountain climber

A split squat is also called a stationary lunge. That requires you to split your feet apart by taking a step forward. Use the wall for balance if you are a beginner. If you are advanced, you can hold dumbells in your hands during the split squat. Do all repetitions for one side and then repeat for the other side. Drop your hips straight down and use your glutes and hamstrings and quadriceps to push your body back up. Do 8 repetitions per side.

For the mountain climber, get into a pushup position. Brace your abs as if someone was going to punch you in the stomach. Maintain that during the entire exercise. Lift one foot off the ground and bring that knee up to your chest. Touch the foot down. Slowly return to the start position. Alternate sides for 10 repetitions per side.

Do exercises 3 and 4 as another superset, and do it 3 times – the same way as above – only if you are advanced.

5) Reverse lunge

Alchemical Weight Loss – Transformation of Excessive Weight Into Human Spirit

September 17, 2021 Posted by kyu7

The unsolved problem of obesity:

Coping with overweight is one of the most desperating issues for those who experience it. Conventional efforts for treating the problem by means of diet and physical exercise are revealed again and again as ineffective in the long run. Still, most human beings keep trying in the same ways. The result is always another rise in weight, with the addition of failure feelings, helplessness and desperation. The reason for failure lies in the misunderstanding of the dynamics in which the physical body gains weight.

The known diet is based on the assumption that the physical body raises as a result of excessive caloric balance which turns into physical material – excessive fat. According to this understanding the derived conclusion is that reducing the consumption of physical material – food – will bring about a reduction of the physical body. This perception is mistaken because it is based on a narrowing view and on analytical causation, which suggest a physical solution to what is sees as a problem that is physical in essence. This conception oversimplifies the complexity of man and neglects the many strata that affect his life, far beyond the physical dimension. Due to that, it cannot offer an effective solution to the problem. The holistic perspective on man tells us that in order to solve a problem, physical as well, we are ought to expand the point of view and understand the entirety of physical, emotional, mental and spiritual causes, in which it was created.

The roots of the obesity problem – Reversed alchemy of gold into lead:

The alchemical perspective on the obesity phenomenon begins with the perception that man is an entity that own creation forces, and is capable of building by himself its physical body, emotional world, mental forces and spiritual strength, and create the physical and spiritual reality in which he or she lives. This force is executed by the ability of man to do a transformation of itself and its environment from low energy existence to existence of a higher frequency, in the same way that an alchemist turns lead into gold. In fact, this is the aim of his life and to there leads his personal path. Overweight is a sign that for some reason the person is focused too much on creating himself a physical body, and neglects the creation of other parts of him and his life.

Creation forces that reside in man are executed by the interaction of two fundamental and opposing energies. These energies are known in different names as matter and spirit, prana and shakti, yin and yang, and so on. In this article I shall refer to these energies as light and darkness.

The interaction between these opposing forces has been the factor that created man while being in the womb of its mother, and in the first years of its life. This creating interaction can exist when these two energies are distinct from each other. In this situation the light supplies the creation program and the darkness creates the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual structures needed for its execution. However, with birth the strength of darkness intensifies, due to the primal trauma of disconnection from cosmic feeding, and it is expressed in the constitution of strong pulling (gravitational) forces that absorb light into them.
